CafePress Storeowner FAQ >

Promoting Your Store

How can I advertise my store offline?

There are lots of things you can get from office supply stores that are made to go through a home printer -- like magnets, greeting cards, stickers, and business cards -- that will help in offline advertising. Always make sure to include your graphic and store's URL on anything you print out.

You'll have to have a lot of sales to make up for your out-of-pocket cost, but if you're in this just for the fun of it, then this is a great way to get the word out. (Melissa)

Where can I find t-shirt directories online that can list my store(s)?

Buy-Tees.com is an online shoppping site with an array of t-shirts including those from CafePress designed by many storeowners. You can list your store in a categorised and searchable directory making it easier for the customer to find your t-shirt! (Adam)

What are some basic ways I can advertise my store online?

One of the best ways to advertise is to have a website tied in with your designs. (If you already have a popular website, this is the best scenario you can have.) Tell your members about your store (be careful not to spam), link to it prominently on the index page, etc. If you are on a mailing list with the same topic, post the URL of your store or website under your name every time you send in a message. Again, be careful not to spam (a spam is an unsolicited advertisement). If you are too enthusiastic in your advertising, you can actually do the opposite of advertising -- people will be turned off by your postings and decide not to shop in your store. So it's very important to find a balance. (Melissa)

What's the best way to get my store listed in the search engines?

Many search engines are now charging for listings. In addition, plenty of companies will be happy to charge you an arm and a leg to "GET YOU LISTED IN 10000 SEARCH ENGINES!!!!!" or similar spammy thing.

Luckily, you don't need to worry about that. One of the easiest ways to get submitted to many different search engines is to use SelfPromotion.com. SelfPromotion.com is a free service that's been around for years. It also has some good advice about site promotion, search engine submission, and other such things. If you contribute, you get access to some interesting tools, but you can use the search engine submission part for free.

Of course, you can also pay the hundreds of dollars to Yahoo et al to get your site listed there, or you could go around and submit to all these places by hand. :-) (LadyPeace)

Does CafePress have a directory of stores/products?

Stores: At this time, CafePress doesn't have a directory of stores per se. There is the Store Spotlight (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/spot/index.aspx and Stores in the news on the "Community" page, and recently updated stores on the main CafePress page, but not a directory. As of June 30, 2002 (when this is being written) they claim to be working on a search engine.

Products: The current list of products being offered at CP at any one time can be found at http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/products/index.aspx. (LadyPeace)
